National Gallery Visit - Creative February
The 4th class had a wonderful day out at the National Gallery of Ireland as part of Creative February. This year’s theme, “Connect with Nature,” was beautifully reflected in our guided tour, where the tour guides focused on nature and landscape art. We explored paintings filled with forests, rivers, skies, and changing seasons, and learned how artists use colour, light, and texture to capture the beauty of the natural world.
One of the highlights of our visit was seeing Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid by Johannes Vermeer. We discovered the fascinating story of how this masterpiece travelled across countries and centuries before finally finding its home in the gallery. The children were amazed to think about how such an old and valuable painting made its journey to Dublin!
We also enjoyed lunch and lots of fun in the playground at Merrion Square, making the most of the fresh air and beautiful surroundings. We then took the DART back to school, chatting about our favourite paintings along the way.
To finish off a fantastic day, we celebrated Pancake Tuesday with some delicious pancakes in school — the perfect ending to a creative and memorable adventure! 🥞🎨🌿
