January in Room Eleven

3rd Feb 2026

January was a busy and exciting month in Room 11, full of hands-on learning and creativity across the curriculum.

In Maths, we explored fractions, using some very yummy chocolate to help us understand sharing and equivalence. We also carried out slope investigations while learning about length, testing which ramps worked best and recording our results.

In Gaeilge, our focus was on Bia. We played lots of fun games to help us learn new vocabulary and even made delicious fruit smoothies. We practised our “Conas é a dhéanamh?” and enjoyed tasting our hard work!

Art was full of colour as we created our own Van Gogh–inspired Starry Nights, using swirling patterns and bold colours. We also celebrated Lego Day on the 28th of January by designing our own Lego self-portraits, which were a big hit!

In Science, we explored mixing water, oil and food colouring and investigated which types of sugar dissolve the fastest. These experiments helped us make predictions, observe changes and explain our results.

In English, we worked very hard on explanation writing. With the help of Ms Byrne, we created a shared writing piece about the life cycle of a clownfish, before writing our own explanation texts. We focused on structure, sequencing and using topic vocabulary.

Music lessons were full of energy as we played tunes using boomwhackers and bells, working together to keep rhythm and beat.

On January 26th, we celebrated Australia Day. We proudly presented our group projects, which we had worked very hard on. To finish the day, we sampled some Australian treats including Vegemite toast, fairy bread and Tim Tams!

January has been a fantastic start to the new year in Room 11, and we are looking forward to all the learning still to come!
