Fifth Class enjoyed a wonderful day visiting the Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship on the quays. Having learned about the Great Famine in class, it was especially interesting to see it in real life.
During the tour, pupils learned all about what life was like during the Great Famine in Ireland and the difficult journeys many people made to America in search of a better life. We saw the cramped sleeping areas, learned about the food passengers ate and listened to fascinating stories about life on board the ship. The class really enjoyed the experience and asked lots of thoughtful questions.
We also enjoyed our lunch along the quays, making the most of the sunshine and our surroundings. We then took the DART back to school, chatting about our favourite parts of the trip. It was a memorable experience for everyone and a fantastic way to bring our history learning to life.
