April in Room Eleven
🌸 April Adventures in Room 11 🌸
April was a jam-packed month in Room 11, full of learning, laughter, and celebration! In Maths, we focused on weight and capacity, where we estimated and weighed various objects. One of our favourite challenges was trying to make a bag that weighed exactly 1 kilogram — not as easy as it sounds! We also had a super fun Capacity Relay, taking our maths outdoors for some active learning.
In literacy, we continued reading Danny, Champion of the World with our friends in The Grange. We were thrilled when they invited us to their school! The TYs gave us a brilliant tour, shared delicious treats, and even presented us with lovely certificates. We are so grateful for their kindness and hospitality — go raibh míle maith agaibh!
On April 2nd, we marked World Autism Day by wearing a rainbow of colours to show that everyone is unique. We learned about neurodiversity and celebrated our differences. To finish the day, we went on a walk together to honour the occasion.
We also celebrated Multicultural Week, and what a busy, exciting week it was! We learned about the rights of the child, focusing on Article 6: Life, Survival and Development. We expressed this through art, discussion, and shared experiences. One highlight was learning the Spanish dance of Flamenco during a vibrant dance workshop.
Some students also had a chance to celebrate Traveller culture with stories, music, and a warm cup of hot chocolate — a beautiful way to learn and connect with others. On Wednesday, Ms Gahan led a powerful Taekwondo workshop. She worked with all of third and fourth classes and the junior ASD class. Everyone gave their best effort, and Ms Gahan was very impressed by the talented kickers and punchers in our school!
Thursday brought our much-anticipated Food Fair, where we tasted foods from around the world. With so many cultures in our class — Romanian, Italian, Indian, Turkish, Nigerian, Polish, Estonian, Algerian, Lithuanian, and the Travelling community — it was a truly special experience to celebrate our diversity together.
We also laced up our runners for the Skip Around Europe Challenge. So far, we’ve skipped to Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, and Estonia — and we’re getting better with every skip!
In Gaeilge, we've been studying An Aimsir. Each day, we create a weather report — and with all the sunshine lately, it’s been a very cheerful chart! We also got creative making Easter headbands, which we proudly wore as we hopped into our Easter break.
Room 11 has had an incredible April, and we’re so proud of all our hard work, fun, and kindness. Roll on May! 🌼
